Online Mode

Alice's Online Mode transforms the default offline language models into web-connected assistants by integrating internet search capabilities. To enable this feature, you might either use native tools from the models (recommended) or register for a free account at firecrawl.dev and add their API key in Settings → General, then activate Online Mode with Command+O (or Control+O on Windows). When enabled, the assistant intelligently determines when to use web search, optimizes queries, selects relevant web content, and incorporates this information into responses, displaying both answers and reference sources.

New Large Language Models are connected to the internet via special tools. When asked for information requiring web search, they:

  1. Decide whether to use the search for a given query or not

  2. Convert your message to a query optimized for web search

  3. Decide which pages' content to load during the search

  4. Appending the website's contents to the System Prompt

This capability is enabled for all models that have 🌐 icon on the model list.

Once you use this kind of model, you can enable Web Search ⌘o and ask for any current information or a website. Model determines that it should use web data and will show you the appropriate notification, and then return relevant information.

Second option is to use Firecrawl service, that is recommended for models that do not have the ability to crawl the web. You switch this globally for Assistant in his settings:

If you want to use Firecrawl, switch to it from Native Web Search. You'll need to register for a free account on the firecrawl.dev and add your API key in the Settings -> General tab.

When your API key is set, you can activate Online Mode by pressing Command + O (or Control + O on Windows). Then, the globe icon will highlight, and your assistant will use the web search tool whenever you ask about websites or recent info.

Here, I have an answer related to the hardware mentioned on brain.overment.com. Besides the answer, there's also a list of references used to generate it.
